Gravity has released a new trailer for Ragnarok M: Classic that focuses on something unusual for a Korean mobile MMORPG: its monetisation model.
The game does away with gacha mechanics and paid bundles entirely. Instead, the whole economy runs on a single currency, zeny, used for both buying and selling. The studio sums up the idea with the slogan "Zeny Everywhere".
True to the original Ragnarok
Ragnarok M: Classic is based on Ragnarok Online and brings back quests, maps and monsters from its classic era. The team's stated goal is to keep the gameplay, economy and community spirit that made the original a cult hit.
Launch and platforms
- Date: 3 September in Western markets.
- Platforms: PC, iOS and Android.
- Cross-play across every version.
Dropping gacha comes as many mobile MMORPG players are asking for less aggressive systems. Whether the model holds up long-term remains to be seen, but on paper it's one of the cleanest offers in the genre.
