Aniplex and South Korean studio JOYCITY have announced that Resident Evil Survival Unit has passed 300,000 pre-registrations ahead of launch. Everyone who signed up will get special items on day one, with extra rewards unlocking at further milestones up to one million registrations.

What Survival Unit is

It's a free strategy game for iOS and Android whose story runs alongside the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. The protagonist wakes up in an experimental Umbrella Corporation hospital and goes on to set up base in a gloomy mansion.

How it plays

  • Build and defend your base, laying traps.
  • Solve puzzles and craft weapons.
  • Form squads with characters such as Leon, Claire and Jill for real-time battles.
  • Coordinate team tactics against the threats.

Launch is planned for 2025, though there's no exact date yet. The pace of sign-ups suggests the brand still has pull on mobile, a space where the series has had little presence.
