Subnautica, the underwater survival game that debuted in 2018, has been available on iOS and Android since 8 July. The mobile version is adapted for touchscreens and adds controller support, cloud saves and achievements.
What it's about
After a shipwreck, the player is stranded on an ocean planet. Survival means crafting gear, exploring the depths and avoiding dangerous local wildlife. Besides the classic survival mode, the mobile edition includes modes that remove hunger, thirst or oxygen management for anyone who'd rather explore at their own pace.
Price
At launch it costs $9 on the App Store and Google Play, with a launch discount running until 15 July.
Changes at Unknown Worlds
The mobile release lands during a period of change at the studio. Following a decision by publisher Krafton, Unknown Worlds' co-founders — including Charlie Cleveland — have stepped away from leadership, though they say they'll keep making games. The new CEO is Steve Papoutsis, known for Dead Space and The Callisto Protocol, who will oversee Subnautica 2. The sequel is expected to enter early access before the end of 2025.
